Man, grapefruits are super photogenic. I didn’t even have to try too hard!
Breakfast is the most skipped meal around here, and I’m sure many University/College students would agree. It’s actually the worst meal to skip: it leads to unusually large lunches and unhealthy snacking throughout the day. I’ve been making a conscious effort to eat breakfast every single day to keep myself hunger-free until my mid-morning nutty snack!
Ok, think breakfast food. I bet pancakes, bacon, waffles, muffins, and coffee come to mind: not exactly the healthy options I’m looking for on a daily basis (good options for weekends, though). Even the healthy breakfast bar recipes I’ve found online have sugar that I’d rather avoid. I tried a few different things without much success – I felt I could be healthier and still actually enjoy my breakfast.
I’ve always enjoyed fruit: green apples, oranges, pears, and peaches – so I grabbed what I thought was a giant navel orange at the grocery store. Silly me, I should have read the sign! I’m glad I didn’t, though.
I realized my mistake when I got home, and thought that the accidental grapefruit was worth a try – I mean, look how beautiful it is.
The cold grapefruit was deliciously refreshing and tasty, so I hopped on the internet, and learned about my new favourite fruit.
Grapefruits are chock full of Vitamin C and antioxidants that help your skin and immune system
Vitamin C is beneficial in improving your immune system: especially when you’ve got a cold! Grab a grapefruit, it’ll help!
I found at least 10 face mask recipes featuring grapefruit that I will be trying. A lot of them target oily/acne prone skin, which I have! Try these grapefruit face masks from Hello Glow.
One medium grapefruit is 42 calories, and contains only 9 grams of natural sugar
Yes! Natural sugars are the best! Grapefruits boost your metabolism – this makes is a great tool to aid in goals of weight loss. I started eating half a grapefruit every other day for breakfast around 8:30 AM, and it keeps me full until about 11:00 AM at which point I eat a few nuts to tide me over until lunch!
You can bake, brulée, or broil grapefruits for a variation on this simple breakfast
What a neat idea! I found a few different sites that give an alternative to fresh grapefruit for those of you who don’t appreciate the natural bitterness of grapefruits. Check it out!
There are other articles that boast about grapefruits warding off cancer and kidney stones – but I’m not a nutritionist, and I haven’t looked into any in depth studies.
You can read into all the articles and research, but plain and simple – grapefruits are natural, delicious, and a fast pass to a healthy breakfast! Please conduct a physician prior to eating grapefruit if you’re on medication.
