Here are some of the fabulous free programs and tools that I used when I first started out, and some that I still use! (If it aint broken, why fix it?)
1. Canva: The free graphic creation program
I didn’t want to spend money on the blog without earning any first. So before I could add Photoshop into my budget, I would (And still use) Canva to create Pinterest graphics, Facebook Banners, and all kinds of other graphics for my social media channels. There are some great features like being able to upload your own fonts, control letter and line spacing, and transparency. The free templates they offer are also a great jumping off point for graphics. With custom size functions, I was also able to use Canva to create my logo and favicon in the correct sizes.
2. Hootsuite: Post scheduling program
Hootsuite is one of my favorite tools. This user friendly program has a paid version, yes, but it also has a free version that I still use today to schedule posts! Why is that useful? Well, it spreads out post promotion to future dates and times. This way, you can spend a few hours on one day scheduling old posts to resurface and other blogger’s posts for your social media channels (cross promotion), and this will keep your old content fresh, and will ensure that you are actively engaging with other bloggers. While I mainly use Hootsuite for Facebook scheduling, you can use it for Twitter, Instagram, and other Social media channels as well!
