In Little Rock, where the temperature soars well beyond the 90’s, it doesn’t bode well for a Canadian used to mild to cool summers. I was sitting in my beautiful new apartment, wiping sweat from my brow when I suddenly had an urge to drink (/pour over my head) some juice.
This kid-friendly, healthy homemade juice will not last long this summer; you’ll have to make this more than once! It’s fresh and fast, perfect to whip out when you’re entertaining last minute guests!
Juicing is not for the faint hearted though, be warned. It takes arm strength and dedication. I’d tried making freshly squeezed orange juice before; but it yielded disappointing results. I had an expectation that it would turn out like Tropicana Orange Juice. Now, I know what to expect; a natural flavor, more like an “ade” than a thick juice when you use navel oranges and limes.
Turn this refreshing summer drink into a cocktail (not kid friendly, obviously) by adding Parrot Bay Mango Rum or Vanilla Vodka!
- 7 Navel oranges
- 2 limes
- 5 cups of water
- ¼ cup honey
- 2 cups of ice
- Using a manual juicer, squeeze out the juice for 7 oranges and 2 limes, reserving a few slices of oranges and limes for garnishing. Strain the juices into a large glass jug.
- In a pot, bring 5 cups of water to a boil. Drizzle in the honey and stir until completely dissolved.
- Let the water cool completely. Pour the cooled water-honey mixture into the jug. Stir well and refrigerate.
- Add ice into the jug before serving and stir a few times. Add slices of oranges and limes to the jug and onto the rims to garnish.
